Dear Readers:

The following statement was sent to doll artists and doll collectors  worldwide by doll artists  Peter Coe and Paul Crees.  What follows is an outpouring of love, support, sympathy and solidarity in messages from doll artists, doll business owners and doll collectors around the world.  Peter Coe and Paul Crees wanted to make a statement of solidarity and sympathy about the September 11 tragedies and invited others from the international doll community to send their own statements to him, too. He contacted Myrna Rubenstein at Doll Reader; she and I
decided that our site was the best way to disseminate these heartfelt messages throughout the doll world quickly.

Myrna and I will post additional messages that Peter and Paul have gathered as we receive them. Your words of comfort and support mean a great deal to all of
us.

I have never been so proud to be a member of the worldwide doll community. Please read the following, and then please add your voice by e-mailing me your thoughts, to collectdolls.guide@about.com  with the heading "A Message of Love."

Dolls And Destruction:
A Message of Love, Goodwill and Friendship To Our American Friends

The entire world has watched with abject horror to the blood curdling events in recent weeks.

Global terrorism has stretched it bloody hand into the heart of the American nation.

This was a cataclysmic and murderous onslaught of seismic proportions.

Lovers of freedom, democracy and humanity have wept at the savagery of the most appalling terrorist atrocity the world has ever seen.

The senseless attacks on innocent human life throughout the United States has touched every continent, it has sickened every country and it has outraged religious groups and peace loving communities of every color, race and creed.

The hearts and minds of people throughout the world know that this was a ferocious act of barbarism attacking the very sanctity of human life. This was a violation against the principles of freedom and peace that countless millions of our forbears forfeited their lives to protect. They fought and heroically sacrificed their lives through civil and two pitiless world wars to protect and maintain the freedoms we all enjoy today. We must all join together now and stand shoulder to shoulder to defeat this war against our civilized democracies to ensure the slaughtered lives of the innocent in the USA and throughout the world will not be in vain. We all have a duty to protect their memories and honor their sacrifice so we can all live in a more peaceful world.

This was not only an attack against the USA. It was an audaciously evil assault against the international democracies of the world all of whom have been affected by this brazen challenge to humankind.

Though our heavy hearts beat with profound grief we from all nations and religious beliefs quietly contemplate in our prayers and thoughts the innocent who have perished. To the families and friends throughout the world who have lost loved ones we are united in grief.

America you are not alone. The global doll community embraces our American friends and family with solace and deeply felt love as we share your heartaches and sorrows.

We all pray and share your determination that from the ashes and rubble of desolation and destruction we can unite as a family of nations working together for a better world. The legacy of love, friendship and goodwill towards others lives on.

Here are many heartfelt messages from the doll community around the world:

Let us pray that the civilised world finds a way to exterminate the creatures responsible for this unspeakable crime, without risking more innocent lives.

God bless all who have suffered in this tragedy.

I have seen the pictures on CNN over and over and I still can't imagine anyone thinking that it is acceptable to do this. I feel for you America and cry for you and most of all I pray for you. You will rise above this and
come together as a closer nation. I just want you to know that your neighbor to the north stands beside you and mourns for you. God will help you get through this.

Sent with love and caring.

To our dear American friends,
Mike and I would like to extend our genuine heartfelt sympathy to you all and
especially to the incredibly brave people of New York City. We grieve with you all and I know that even an evil act of this monumental proportion will not dampen the spirit of your great freedom loving nation. The world knows you will rise from the catastrophic ashes stronger than ever.
GOD BLESS AMERICA.

In this terribly sad time for our world, I have been uplifted by the tremendous bond amongst the world's doll community. It has been a huge source of support, to see the emails, phone calls, and faxes come in from concerned artists, galleries, dealers, and manufacturers, here in the US and abroad. This level of support, along with constant prayers, will give us all some strength as we try to make sense of this unbelievably evil act against all humanity. It is very comforting to see that we can have a common bond that extends beyond borders, religious or social beliefs. Thank you all so much, and may God help us through whatever happens next.

Dearest Friends, what happened in New York and Washington last Tuesday will be carved in our minds forever. We are close to you and to all the American people in these most dramatic circumstances. A crime against humanity in its entirety was committed.

The whole civilized community will have to exert itself, so that dreadful events like this shall not be repeated. Terrorism and those who support it must be stopped at all costs.

Among the victims of these attacks were also many Italians. Many times has Italy been struck by terrorism: it has always managed to rise again. We are sure you will also be able to set out again, with the help of all the peoples of America and of all the peoples of the world, for a future of peace and respect for humankind and its environment.

With Heartfelt Sympathy.’

The World Trade Center terrorist attack has murdered thousands of innocent men, women, children and babies. They've succeeded in causing the  civilized world to mourn. But they've also assured the eradication of terrorism by the good people of the world. God bless humanities’ efforts to that purpose.

‘In my capacity as a German citizen and part of the doll community, who
strongly believes in the ideals of democracy and freedom which are
common to the American and the German people, I would like to take this
opportunity to express my dismay for the terrorist attacks which took
place in New York City and Washington, DC as well as my deepest sorrow
for all the victims who lost their lives on September 11th, 2001 and for
their families who lost their loved ones.’

‘In this time of grief let us not forget that this great country was built on
the principles of freedom, humanity and love for peoples of all religions,
races, and cultures. Nowhere does this make itself more apparent than in
the "doll world", where we celebrate individuality. If we tolerated only
one doll to exist, one mold to be poured, one color of paint on a palette,
how dull the world would be. If each of us insisted that only one piece of
art should be preserved and it should be of our own choosing, how long would
we remain a united community? There is no doubt we must defend ourselves
when attacked. But, we must not punish the innocent with the guilty, nor
must we ever resort to the vile tactics used by a few fanatics. If we are
to truly remain the greatest nation on earth we must proceed with honor and
wisdom. As artists and collectors, we choose to create, to preserve. We do
this for our own pleasure, but also so that we may leave a legacy of beauty
and diversity, and chronicle a portion of the world's history for those who
will come after us. Let the "doll world" not pass on a history of bigotry,
hatred and destruction. Let us instead pass on images of love, unity and
creativity, for not one of us can enjoy the true beauty of a rainbow unless
all colors are present. And, if we destroy all who are different from
ourselves, with whom shall we share it?’

‘Our sadness is shared with our doll community throughout the world. Each day we cherish the life that we live in our countries where we have the freedoms to do things throughout the day that we wish to do. Even though many of us are not in New York City or Pennsylvania, we are still close because of television and telephone. I thank the good Lord for each day and the freedom that I share with my fellow Americans.
God Bless America and all the freedom loving countries of the world.’

‘The absolute pain and sadness of this past week's events have left a hole in my heart that can never be mended. My thoughts and prayers go out to all those souls lost, and to all those who have been left behind
to bear the pain and the burdens of such a tragic and terrible loss of family and friends. God bless the world, and let's all pray that we make the right decisions in the coming days and months.

’I am speechless with grief and frustration. What can I, we, really do
in this unimaginable time? Keep our faith in our country and whatever Universal Spirit in which we believe and continue to do what we do best... give of our selves when we can and create with passion.
With a sad heart I send you all my love.’

’Even though I was fortunate and none of my family or close friends were involved in either place I felt very sad that my beloved New York was hurt so badly and never dreamed that the towers would fall! I'm still shocked by this!

I hope and pray that no one in the Doll community was hurt or killed that morning.

My heart and prayers go out to those who have lost  loved ones.’

The outpouring of support from around the globe has uplifted those of us in this country who feel so violated at this time. While we can't predict what the future will hold, we are confident that events of this horror and magnitude will never be allowed to happen again. We want to try to express our heartfelt gratitude to you and all the people of the world who have expressed their support to us in our hours of grief.

Marilyn Henke. USA

‘We are slowly losing the numbness and the disbelief that overwhelmed us all. The grief is setting in. Tears spring unwillingly as we look at the photos of the missing and the gaping hole in the skyline. They take us by surprise and are choked back with a resolve that we can not give in to their desire to weaken or frighten us.
We are dazed but unbent. Most people have decided, as have I, to go on with our every day routine... to open our stores...to open our businesses and even in our fear not to give in to the terrorists. Not to give them what they want. Not to let them decide our lives for us.
There will be retribution and I can only hope that it is an even handed one that destroys the perpetrators and those that give them succor. I hope that the rest of the free world will join us and give no aid to the enemy - whether it is in their best financial or political interests or not.
This has happened to the world. It is going to take a joint effort to eradicate the pestilence from our midst.’
Neil & Tom. CFM Gallery. New York. USA

The sadness and the stories that filter back to us via press and TV can only be fragments of the way Americans are feeling. It is indeed dreadful. I am old enough to have lost my dad in the second world war and through my life have watched  and shared  the feelings of hatred and revenge that seem to be born in us. But it's no good. If thousands more die because of the few deeply wrong fanatics, there will be more and more reprisals. But, if all this horror can serve to unite nations to aid and support each other, then the causes of all this evil will be minimized and the world will stand a hope of peaceful co-existance for all races and creeds. We do have to try. Our children and  in my case my grandchildren, need it badly. The Watchword is UNDERSTANDING.

I awakened that morning listening to the usual voices on my clock radio when suddenly everything changed as the special announcement broke in to say that an airplane had crashed into the World Trade Center. My TV was quickly turned on and I watched in utter horror and disbelief. Was this really happening? How could a thing like this happen? My heartfelt sympathy immediately went out to the innocent victims and the rescue workers. I felt numb watching as this horrible tragedy unfolded.
I remembered other horrendous acts within my life time, 12/07/41 and
other wartime memories of horror; 1950, when many of my high school friends became policemen in a new kind of war in Korea; next Vietnam; then Desert Storm when the next generation was called upon to keep the peace. We are still seeing problems in parts of Europe and the Arab countries. MY HEART IS CRYING OUT FOR PEACE ON EARTH, GOOD WILL TOWARD ALL MANKIND. Let us join together and form a common bond to find those responsible, punish them and put an end to the terrorist groups. I see the doll community creating symbols that when sold will set aside a portion of the profit to support disaster relief agencies and investigators tracking down the terrorists. We need a 'MOTHER LIBERTY' doll that will become a symbol of Peace and Living Together in Harmony. She should embody the protection a mother gives her child. She should include items linking us together in One World of Harmony. Thank you for asking me for a comment. I now plan to resume my normal plans to travel by airplane both tomorrow morning and in October to the Modern Doll Convention. I will not give in to the terrorists, rather I
will pray and give assistance where ever I can. And work towards a
Unified World as Europe has worked towards their European Union. With Barbie love for others’
