Toy Fair 2003 News: Hasbro
More Girls Toys!

Another giant, Hasbro, has really pulled out all the stops for girl's toys this year, including a revamp of the ever popular (and very nostalgic!) Easy Bake Oven.  Plus, little Ham Hams, My Little Pony and a world of Disney--what more could the little girl in all of us want?

Hamtaro

New Hamtaro toys, featuring those adorable Ham-Hams from Cartoon Network are being released by Hasbro.  The Ham-Ham Treetop Playhouse features a spinning treetop swing that activates electronic music and sounds.  Figures attach to a rolling sunflower-seed sled for more action play and can go shooting and sliding through the tree trunk.  The playset comes with two Ham-Ham figures, one rolling sunflower seed sled and furniture. The Ham-Ham Ferris Wheel Play set lets kids take Boss Ham-Ham on the train and zoom through the arcade.  Ham Ham figures can ride the Ferris Wheel--turn a knob to make them spin around.  Also a flower shop and a fruit stand. And, for the plush lover, there is dancing Hamatro Ham Ham is a soft plush that dances and sings the show's theme song.

Disney Theme Parks

Also new from Hasbro are the Disney Theme Park playsets.  These will be introduced in July of 2003, and the first three playsets are the Magical World of Disney Playset, the Its a Small World playset and Cinderella's Golden Carousel Playset.

Easy Bake Oven

Easy Bake Oven was introduced to children 40 years ago!  To commemorate the anniversary, Easy Bake is introducing their first ever light-bulb free oven (this is a good thing--my 7 year old got one of these for Christmas and we forgot to buy a light bulb that was the correct wattage, and she was so disappointed...). The new oven is called the "Easy-Bake Real Meal Oven" and children can cook cheese pizza, soft pretzels and macaroni and cheese, instead of the usual cookies and cake easy bake fare. The new oven will be out in Fall, 2003, and will retail for $34.99.

My Little Pony

Another nostalgic brand returns in Fall 2003--My Little Pony.  The brand has been updated (no toy company, it seems, can just release a beloved old toy as it was--they are always updated.  Can you imagine what poor Raggedy Ann would look like by now if the toy companies updated her continually--she'd probably have exaggerated make up, glittered pink hair and hip-hugger jeans...)  Anyway...the new My Little Pony Rainbow Celebration ponies feature beautiful rainbow hair.  The four ponies are Sunny Daze, Wysteria, Sweetberry and Rainbow Dash.   If you prefer glitter, then there are the My Little Pony Glitter Celebration Ponies, with glitter designs in their hair. All of the ponies come with a brush to style is their beautiful hair and a special charm for the MY LITTLE PONY charm bracelet.

Besides the new Ponys, you can get your Little Ponys' the My Little Pony Celebration Castle.  Then, there is the new baby pony figure, Pink Sunsparkle, which comes with the castle.  The Castle also comes with  two turrets, crown, hot-air balloon, heart-shaped arch, rounded arch, moat, balcony, staircase, spinning disk, bed, toy box, vanity, comb, brush, wardrobe, hanger, tutu, pony crown, storage drawer, stove, two plates, two tea cups, tea pot, saucepan, label sheet and charm, and it will retail for $39.99.  Also available will be a Birthday Celebration Razzaroo and a Cotton Candy Cafe for the Ponys.

Finally, My Little Pony, the movie, will premiere in October 2003.  MY LITTLE PONY: The Movie will be showcased at Loews  Cineplex, Cinemark and Carmine Cinemas only during ideal hours for kids - from early morning to midday.  For more information, visit www.mylittlepony.com

Furreal Friends

To join the Furreal cats and kittens, in Fall 2003 there are the new Furreal Friends Go Go My Walkin Pups.  These mimic the  mannerisms unique to "real" household pets through life-like organic movements and sounds. These new pup toys are highlighted by Tiger's proprietary technology, including lifelike movements and actions - her head moves from side to side, her mouth and tail move as she walks towards you. Pet her and her tail wags; pet her side and watch her turn toward you! In addition, when you talk to her, she tracks your sound and moves to where you are! the Walkin Pups feature a range of real dog sound effects, including barking and panting, and comes complete with a brush, bandana and bone. ($49.99 retail).

G.I. Joe

Hasbro's reintroduction of G.I.Joe vs. Cobra was a hit--so this year, there are the new Spy Troops--an elite force of G.I. JOE members disguised as the enemy to stop COBRA from the inside - fantasy through an action-packed product line. And, for the first time since the 1980s, Hasbro will introduce a new G.I. Joe movie! The 44-minute DVD movie, called "SPY TROOOPS: The Movie," will be included with each Ninja Showdown 12-inch figure 2-pack this fall. And,  a fleet of vehicles with brand new Action Attack  electronic battle and engine sounds will also be available.  (Fall 2003; $39.99 retail)
