CHARACTERISTICS OF DOLL: This series of dolls was licensed by the Edith Head Estate and Universal Studios. The doll was produced in a limited and numbered edition.
From the information in the box: "In the spirit of Edith Head, Mr. Tonner is the ideal designer to develop the dolls and costumes. His experience designing clothes for celebrated designer Bill Blass, and designing his own collections for New York City's Fashion Avenue, has served him well as the quintessential fashion designer in the doll genré."
The doll wears an elegant gown of deep magenta, trimmed in delicate metallic gold trim. She has pearl and gold earings and a rhintestone and gold necklace. The doll is compeltely porcelain and her arms, head and legs are jointed.
PRICE: $70 to $120 on eBay for MIB and NRFB dolls.
COMMENTS: This is a historic, early doll from Robert Tonner. In 1998 he created a series of 16" porcelain dolls and their Edith Head inspired costumes. This doll, "Catherine in the Heiress" is part of that Series, and, I think, the prettiest one. The original retail on this doll was $169, and she is getting hard to find.
MARKET REPORT: These dolls are real "sleepers"--as Robert Tonner dolls become more and more popular, I predict that demand will increase for his earlier dolls, many which were done in very limited editions.
