DOLLS  WEEK OF NOVEMBER 18, 1999

NEWS

AMERICANS CHOOSE FAVORITE TOYS OF THE TWENTIETH CENTURY
Recently, 10,000 Americans participated in a national Internet survey conducted by www.backtobasictoys.com to determine which toys and games will be remembered as the favorites of the 20th Century.   Here are the dolls that made the list:

#1--BarbieŽ! (the FAVORITE toy of the 20th century
#12--Raggedy Ann
#13--Doll House (not a doll...but...)
#14--Chatty Cathy
#24--GI Joe (yes, he IS a doll)
#29--Cabbage Patch Doll

Overall in the 1930s, Raggedy Ann,  and Shirley Temple doll made the top 10.  In the 1940s, Raggedy Ann.  In the 1950s, Barbie (very surprising since she didn't debut till the VERY end of the decade).  In the 1960s, Barbie and Chatty Cathy.  In the 1970s, Barbie and Raggedy.  In the 1980s,   Barbie, Cabbage Patch and Raggedy.  In the 1990s, only Barbie.  Doll Houses were top 10 almost for every decade.  I DO think that the results were somewhat influenced by the list of toys provided to "jog" peoples memories; most of those toys made the list!

WELCOME BARBIEŽ!
BarbieŽ has officially joined this site!  There will be FULL coverage of both vintage and modern Barbie. Go to The Barbie Start Page to get started on hundreds of links, articles, and the Barbie Folder in the Forum.

TOYS R US:  MORE ON SITE OUTAGES
More on the problems at the Toys R Us Site; the site is SO successful this Christmas season, that high  traffic continues to crash the site; in fact, I STILL get the "We Are At Full Guest Capacity" message when I try to access the site.

BARBIESŽ APPEAR IN TOY STORY 2 (poor Bo Peep!)
I've seen a clip of the movie with a large BUNCH of BarbieŽs in a toy store scene Toy Story 2, set for release next week.  If my memory serves me correctly, Mattel had refused to license BarbieŽ for use in Toy Story 2 (and, hence Bo Peep was the only doll that had a major role).  More on this in next week's Dolls This Week!
