DOLLS THIS WEEK-- NOVEMBER 10, 1999

NEWS

WELCOME BARBIE®!
Barbie® is officially joining this site!  Up until now, Barbie® has had a separate site here at About.com.  With the departure of the Barbie Doll Collecting Guide, Barbie will now be fully covered here at Dolls at About.com!  I am hard at work adding hundreds of links, plus information and articles.  Barbie will also be extensively covered in the Doll Price Guide and Collector Galleries, and there will be continuing coverage of Barbie in Dolls This Week.  A Barbie-only chat will be added (Guest Chat Host volunteers are welcome--please apply to collectdolls.guide@about.com) and we will have a special area in the Forum for Barbies as well.  More information and links will follow in next week's About Dolls Newsletter!  And, of course, you will continue to get the same, full coverage of ALL dolls at this site as you have gotten in the past.

TOYS R US BIG BOOK JUST ARRIVED THIS WEEKEND!
When I was little, I would sit with the Sears catalog and drool over the Barbies, Chattys and other dolls (OK, am I dating myself here?) for weeks and weeks before Christmas.  Well, the Toys R Us Big Book just was delivered in newspapers this weekend, and it is the closest thing to a "Sears Catalog" that children from the current generation will know!  And, breaking news is that the Big Book directed so much traffic to the Toys R Us web site, that it crashed it today!  From Excite News.

DOLL CONTESTS!
Don't miss the just announced Krelink Doll Pin Contest and contests at Auntie.com  For information on prizes and how to enter:  Doll Contests.

AUCTION WATCH BLOCKED BY eBAY
Do you enjoy using the Auction portal sites that let you search for a particular doll up for auction across several sites?  Well, last month, eBay asked 30 such sites, including AuctionWatch http://www.auctionwatch.com to stop searching their eBay for auctions.  Most auction portal sites, fearing legal action, agreed to stop their searches.  But, AuctionWatch stood up to eBay, and now eBay is blocking them?  Will legal action result on the part of AuctionWatch?   Read the full story at MSNBC.com

YAHOO AUCTIONS ARE A SERIOUS COMPETITOR TO eBAY!
Yahoo becomes the FIRST auction site (beside eBay) to have over 1 million items up for auction simultaneously.  As Yahoo goes from zero items to 1 million items at one time for auction in ONE year, will it be eBay's first serious competition?  In the Dolls area, they have over 13,000 items up for bid, BUT they many fewer categories than eBay. Get the facts from MSNBC.com.
