DOLLS THIS WEEK-- SEPTEMBER 14, 1999
NEWS
FARM WOMEN SLIGHTED BY BARBIE
Last week, I reported that a new Barbie stamp would be released
by the US Post Office this week (see the stamp in the Christian Science
Monitor). This has left some women in the United States slighted--specifically,
women who work on farms! The U.S. post office passed on the opportunity to issue a
stamp honoring farm women, saying that there "was not enough National interest"
for such a stamp, and announced the Barbie stamp on the same day. Now, I KNOW we all
think dolls are important, but I am left wondering a bit by this decision. Read
about it in the LA TImes,
and let me know what you think in the Forum
