SIMON AND HALBIG 1079 WITH STORY ABOUT ITS ORIGINAL OWNERS
submitted by Linda Babin
The doll on your right is an AM 390, the one in the middle is a
Simon & Halbig 1079, who has a story. I purchased her at an estate sale, she was all
together, but dirty! When I was cleaning her up I discovered one of her
previous owners had used her head to store information about her. I replaced the
notes back in her head, but this is more or less what they said. 1st note: I'm 11 years
old, my name is Mathilda, and my mother just gave me this doll, her name is Mathilda too.
She has been part of our family for a long time, and always goes to the youngest Mathilda
in the family, as soon as they are old enough to take care of her. Mommy got her
from her aunt, who is really old.
2nd note: Well I have just come home from the hospital with my little girl, her name is Mathilda, we will call her Matty , to avoid confusion. 3rd note: Matty is very ill, and though she's only nine I'm going to give her Mathilda, I fear that if we don't share her now we may never.
4th and last note: I'm so sad, we buried Matty earlier this month, and I don;t know what will become of Mathilda, I'm going to put her up, and hope one day she will find someone to lover her as much as our family always has.
Matty was the last Mathilda. None of these notes are dated. What a shame. The doll on the far left, talking to Santa is sitting and is a Kestner 167, her composition body is marked patient 70685excelsior.{The patient# is hard to read but I believe that is correct.}
