Meet Mikayla, an original porcelain doll by Anna Hawkins, a new doll artist.   Mikayla is ready for first grade in her navy tartan plaid school uniform.  She anticipates her first day with some reservation as she is not used to being away from home for an entire day at a time.  However, she is ready to meet the challenges of the school year.  She brings with her an enthusiasm for learning to read any new book she picks up.

Anna Hawkins has been learning the art of dollmaking since 1995 when she took her first reproduction dollmaking class.  It was then that she knew she would not be satisfied until she had completed her very own creation.  Since that time she has spent many hours of research and practice perfecting her skills in sculpting, moldmaking, kiln firing,
painting, and assembly.
