JIM
MORRISON DOLL SOON TO HIT SHELVES:
McFarlane Toys is going to release a small doll (action figure?) of Jim
Morrison. The doll will stand 6" tall, and it comes with its
own microphone and mic stand and custom base with "The Doors"
logo. The doll/figure has a classic concert pose, and will be
released in September. This is the latest in
music-related figures to be released by McFarlane Toys--others include
KISS, the Beatles' Yellow Submarine, Alice Cooper and Ozzy Osbourne.
McFarlane also has the master toy license for this summer's top grossing
film, DreamWorks' blockbuster, "Shrek," and has immortalized
music figures such as Rob Zombie, Janis Joplin, Jerry Garcia, which comes
out this month, plus Metallica and AC/DC's Angus Young. Read more at
AZCentral.com.
TEDDY
FROM A.I. MOVIE TO BE RELEASED IN JULY: If you've seen
"A.I.: Artificial Intelligence" then
you are familiar with
Teddy the bear, Haley Joel Osment's super teddy bear. If you
loved Teddy, you can have one of your own, since Tiger Electronics the
company behind Furby is hoping to have "Teddy" bears on
store shelves by late July. Four versions of
Teddy will range in size (four to 15 inches) and price ($4.99 to $29.99),
with the larger dolls uttering such phrases as, "I am robot, but I am
also teddy," "You have a trusting hand, my friend" and
"What's new, super friend?" (The bigger models won't be out
until fall.) The chatter was recorded by voiceover artist Jack Angel
who also lent his voice to the big screen Teddy. However, this
Teddy will be warmer and a bit more emotional than the on-screen
Teddy. Warner Bros. has stated that this bear will not be aimed at
children, but at adult collectors, given the graphic violence and sexual
situations in the film. Read more in the TV
Guide Insider.

STILL AVAILABLE FOR THE NATIONAL UFDC CONVENTION: I understand
that full registrations are still available for the big National
Convention of the United Federation of Doll Clubs, which is being held
this year from August 5-10th in Atlanta, Georgia. This is highly
unusual, since this convention usually sells out immediately. The
national convention is attended by over 2,000 doll collectors, and it
includes a full 6-days of incredible doll events, seminars, shows,
lectures, and competitions. If you are interested in attending this
convention, you can register online at www.ufdc.org.
I will be there and I'm looking forward to meeting site members who are
also attending! I will also be giving two seminars AND a large,
2-hour program open to all registrants on "Dolls and the
Internet."
