The first edition Strawberry Shortcake was made by Kenner. Unlike later editions, the first edition doll, released in 1980, did not come with her pet Custard. The earliest dolls in 1980 had flat hands, the later part of the first edition had curved hands. The most sought-after dolls are never removed from their original box with the Strawberry Shortcake card plus the doll's comb still in the box and the original cello on the hair.
