What Are The Pussycat Dolls? - Are They Actually Dolls?

Question: What Are The Pussycat Dolls? - Are They Actually Dolls?

Many people come to this site looking for information about the Pussycat Dolls. What (or who?) are they, and are they really dolls?

Answer: According to Bill Lamb, the About.com Guide to Top 40 and Pop Music, the Pussycat Dolls are "an all-female burlesque group created by choreographer Robin Antin in 1993." The women in the group wear suggestive costuming, and the group often features guest appearances by top celebrities. They have had several top 40 hits.

Are The Pussycat Dolls Actual Dolls?

The Pussycat Dolls are not now, nor have they ever been, actual dolls that collectors or fans of the group can purchase (although I wouldn't be surprised if dolls are merchandised down the road).

Josie And The Pussycat Dolls by JAAKS Pacific

There has been some confusion because there have been Pussycat Dolls produced by JAAKS Pacific in 2001. These are not dolls that represent the burlesque pop band "The Pussycat Dolls" but dolls that represent "Josie and the Pussycat Dolls" of cartoon and movie fame. The confusion is understandable, since the dolls represent a rock band as well.

Madame Alexander Pussycat Baby Dolls

Additionally, Madame Alexander has made a popular Pussycat baby doll for many years. These dolls are a larger Madame baby doll, generally about 14" tall. They have vinyl heads and lower limbs, a soft cloth body and sleep eyes.
