Glossary of Doll Collecting Terms - - Collectible Play Doll

By Denise Van Patten, About.com

Definition: A collectible play doll is a doll which is more expensive than the typical vinyl play doll (such as a Barbie doll or a Bratz from Toys 'R Us) which is meant for play but which also has aspects and characteristics of a collectible doll.

Some examples of Collectible Play Dolls include Ginny by Vogue, Madame Alexander Baby Dolls, Lee Middleton Baby Dolls, Marley Wentworth by Tonner Dolls, and Gotz certain Gotz dolls.

Examples: Julia wanted to buy a special doll for her daughter Grace, a doll that she could play with but which was also high quality and that could be given, perhaps, to Grace's daughter one day. She didn't want to buy her another Barbie doll that would like naked in the toy chest like the 15 other Barbie dolls that Grace owned. So, the owner of the doll shop showed Julia several collectible play dolls.
