Robert Tonner, Denise Van Patten, and New Doll Collecting Friends at the Philadelphia Doll Convention
One of the best things about going to convention are the other doll collectors that you meet. Here, I am pictured with some new collector friends (and Robert Tonner) at the Tonner Doll Company wine and cheese party on Thursday night. The collectors are from all over the United States, and all enthusiastically collect Tonner dolls (as well as many other types).
This was a ticketed event at convention, which means that there was space for a limited number of people, so an advance ticket must be purchased. Ticketed events include breakfasts, lunches, dinners, teas and cocktail parties, and nearly all include a souvenir doll or doll related item made in a limited edition just for the event. At this event, a boxed set of fashion doll jewelry which would fit Tyler Wentworth, Sydney Chase, and similar size dolls was the souvenir favor. Wine and different cheeses and crackers were provided for refreshments, and there was live music.
Speaking of making friends at convention, one of the delights of going to conventions is that you can meet up with old friends from all over the world. I shared my hotel room at this convention with a dear friend from Louisiana that I met nearly 10 years ago at another UFDC convention, and I also spent time with other friends that I met through Doll Collecting at About.com that had travelled from across the United States.
