Character Doll - Glossary of Doll Collecting Terms

Definition: Doll made to look like a living child or adult (and not stylized like most earlier dolls from the 1800s); term popularized in the beginning of the 1900s.
Examples: Most bisque dolls from about 1890 through the very early 1900s were dolly-faced dolls, but then dollmaking companies in Germany started producing character dolls.
