Doll Review: Breath of Life Babies by Lee Middleton

About.com Rating 4.5

The Bottom Line

The Breath of Life Babies have realistic baby skin and baby fine, individually rooted hair, which give these dolls an unbelievably realistic feel. The doll used for this review, Molly, also has a breathing mechanism which, when the chest of the doll is pressed, makes the doll "breath" for five minutes! This doll is suitable for collectors and older children--the doll is not sturdy enough for play for a younger child, but at a $149.99 suggested retail, the doll is intended for collectors.

Guide Review - Doll Review: Breath of Life Babies by Lee Middleton

I really enjoy surprising baby doll shoppers in my shop with Molly, a new Breath of Life Baby with a breathing mechanism. I activate the mechanism on the doll, and then hand the baby to the shopper to hold. The reactions range from "gotta have it" to horror! Most collectors seem to like the breathing feature, and it is amazing to sit the doll down and watch her chest go up and down as she takes "breaths."

Only a few of the dolls have the breathing feature; the entire line of dolls, however, features soft but not squishy skin, an endearing sculpt (I especially like the sculpting on the limbs, toes and fingers) and beautifully, intricately rooted baby hair. This combination of features makes these dolls some of the most popular baby dolls on the market today. The

The dolls are approximately 18" long, slightly smaller than most real infants. The doll is suitable for play for older children; I have found that younger children (three to six years old) tend to drag the baby doll around by its arms which often results in the arm coming off the soft cloth body. Older children do love the life-like features of the dolls, as do collectors of baby dolls.

The dolls are available in Black, Hispanic and Caucasian versions, and each is sculpted beautifully and appropriately, with appropriate skin tones and hair. The dolls have suggested retail prices between $129.99 and $149.99.
