Is eBay Still Relevant today?
But, with all the changes to eBay in the last few days, is eBay still relevant today? In spite of the growing reliance on fixed price listings on eBay and the reduction in auctions of dolls, the answer is a resounding yes. There is still nowhere online that has the wide variety of dolls, doll sellers, and buyers that eBay has. Additionally, eBay is a valuable tool to research a quick assessment of the current market value of a particular doll, especially with tools such as Terapeak which allow eBay researchers to access more doll listings than the 15 days of listings available in eBay's own completed items search.
eBay Buyer and Seller Beware
The articles I've listed in the "More on eBay" section will help get you started on eBay as a doll buyer or seller. However, the one overall theme for both buyer and seller on eBay is both buyer and seller beware. Buyers must be very careful that they know the eBay doll seller that they are buying from, or that eBay can give the buyer enough information about the eBay doll seller that the buyer can trust the information about the doll or dolls being purchased. As for the eBay Seller, the seller must be sure to not "give away" their dolls by starting their eBay auctions at too low a selling price, or by setting too low a fixed price for their dolls. Additionally, sellers must product themselves from eBay buyer scams and chargebacks.
eBay Still a Vibrant Doll Marketplace
All that said, eBay is still a vibrant doll marketplace--perhaps the most vibrant one in existence today. I'm both an avid buyer and seller of eBay dolls, and I suspect I will be for a very long time, no matter how eBay continues to change and morph.
