Little girls (and their moms) everywhere are eagerly waiting for the release of the first-ever full-length, live-action movie to feature the American Girl Dolls. The movie, "Samantha: An American Girl Holiday," will be available on DVD and VHS from Warner Home Video starting November 30. The movie will also be broadcast on The WB TV Network during Thanksgiving week.

The movie is based on the best-selling character, Samantha, from American Girl's highly-successful book and 18-inch doll collection. "American Girl is a hugely successful brand among consumers and we know fans will be excited to see their favorite character brought to life in a way that stays true to the original books and dolls. 'Samantha: An American Girl Holiday' captures the essence, warmth and timelessness of the original story, which -- combined with the film's powerful acting and excellent production values -- gives it the potential to become a children's holiday classic," commented Christine Martinez, WHV Vice President, Non-theatrical Franchise Marketing.

Consumers will be able to purchase the DVD of "Samantha" An American Girl Holiday" along with a special keepsake heart-shaped locket necklace -- just like the one Samantha wears in the movie -- for a suggested retail of $19.99. The movie will also be sold without a collectible on DVD for a suggested retail of $19.97 as well as on VHS for $14.94.

"Samantha: An American Girl Holiday" is based on the books about Samantha Parkington (portrayed by AnnaSophia Robb, "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory"), a nine-year-old orphan being raised by her wealthy and proper grandmother (portrayed by Golden Globe-winning actress Mia Farrow, "Rosemary's Baby") in 1904 New York, a time of great change in America. While she is well loved and cared for, Samantha is a little lonely living in Grandmary's big house.

Things are livelier whenever Uncle Gard (portrayed by Jordan Bridges, "Mona Lisa Smile") comes to visit, but Samantha feels that doesn't happen often enough. Samantha's world begins to change, however, when a young girl named Nellie comes to work at the house next door.

She and Samantha become fast friends, in spite of the differences between them. The movie explores the girls' different worlds and the changes and challenges they face together -- including Nellie's dramatic escape from a New York City orphanage. In the end, Samantha and Nellie both find a home and a family they can call their own.

Fans of the American Girl dolls should note that Nellie is a brand new American Girl doll as well.

The DVD will include special features, and one in particular is of special interest to doll collectors. This is the "American Girl Place Tour:" A sneak peek at everything that American Girl Place has to offer, from the Doll Hair Salon to the bright, contemporary Cafe -- "Imagine" performance: A musical number from "The American Girls Revue," a Broadway-style show featuring the ensemble cast

We will review the movie as soon as it is released--just in time for Christmas!
