How To Join The Doll Artisan Guild and Find a Dollmaking Studio

Do You Want To Learn How To Make Dolls?  Here's How To Start!

There are several organizations that offer dollmaking classes  worldwide.  The Doll Artisan Guild (D.A.G.)  is one of the largest., and the Guild offers classes in probably more countries than any other organization.   The D.A.G also offers well-respected dollmaking degrees and titles through their dollmakers education program.

Joining the D.A.G.

Over 12,000 porcelain dollmakers worldwide are members of the Doll Artisan Guild.  It is a not-for-profit organization devoted to porcelain dollmakers.  Membership in the Guild includes a subscription to either The Doll Artisan magazine (reproduction antique dollmaking) or Dollmaking magazine (modern dolls)  Plus, the Guild offers many specialty seminars on dollmaking and costuming.  Members may also attend Doll Artisan Guild festivals and conventions, and may compete in the D.A.G Dollmaking Competitions.

The D.A.G. has a "School of Dollmaking" which offers various respected titles for dollmakers, plus a way to earn some college credits as well.  The titles include Certified Doll Artisan, Master of Dollmaking, Grand Master of Dollmaking, Doctor of Dollmaking etc.  The titles are well-known in the industry.  For more information on how to receive either or both of the magazines and how to join the Guild, visit the Seeleys Dollmaking web site.

Seeleys Dollmaking Workshops

Porcelain dollmaking is taught at Seeleys-affiliated dollmaking workshops worldwide, in the United States and 30 other countries (for more details, see the Seeleys Shop Locator.  At the workshops, students can take weekly dollmaking lessons for a fee, plus the cost of supplies.  Most students start classes with a baby doll, which is perfect for the beginner level.  As students progress, they can work on a wide variety of modern and antique dolls, through which they learn to clean porcelain greenware, paint dolls, cut eyes, assemble, wig, and (depending on the studio) costume dolls.  Specialty seminars are also offered at the workshops (these seminars can be anywhere from 1/2 a day to 3 days in length). Most Seeleys shops offer the full line of Seeleys dollmaking products as well.

If you are a doll collector, a lover of crafts, an admirer of dolls, or even just looking for an interesting hobby, there is no better time than now to learn porcelain dollmaking.  To get started, use the Seeleys Shop Locator and find a Dollmaking Workshop near you.
