You look around your cluttered home and all you see are dolls. Dolls everywhere. Sitting haphazardly on their shelves. Some are dusty, some need stands, and some need clothes. Oh sure, some are in mint condition, but even those seem crowded and disorganized. Next to the shelves of dolls sit piles of doll magazines. And somewhere on your desk is a phone number to look into some insurance for your dolls....

Does this scenario describe (even partially) your doll collection? If so, help has arrived--a detailed series of articles on Organizing Your Doll Collection.

Organizing Tasks

The following topics (organizing tasks) shall be covered, in detail, in a series of articles:

  • Reviewing Your Collection: Reviewing your collection to create an overall game plan.
  • Displaying Your Dolls: Options for displaying your dolls, plus tips for creating pleasing displays.
  • Doll Storage and Care: How to store dolls that are NOT on display, plus general doll care.
  • Taking a Doll Inventory: All collectors should have a detailed inventory of the dolls in their collection. Information that you should include in your inventory, and computer software that you can use.

For some collectors, especially new collectors with only a few dolls in their collection, organizing your collection won't take much time, but its good to start instilling good collecting habits NOW, before things get out of control.

For other collectors (especially those having hundreds of dolls), following this plan for organization will take considerable time. One way to approach the plan is to start THIS week with Task One: Reviewing Your Collection, and doing one task a week until you are finished (a seven-week process).

Now, lets get started with Task One: Reviewing Your Collection.
Then, lets tackle Task Two:
Displaying Your Dolls.
Onto Task Three:
Storing Your Dolls
Task Four:
Taking an Inventory
