DOLL: All-Bisque by Kestner with swivel head, glass sleep eyes and
lace-up boots

MARKS: The doll is marked "1" on head and torso
DATE OF PRODUCTION: circa 1885
CHARACTERISTICS OF DOLL: Round-faced with swivel head. Torso is very shapely with waist, defined navel. Arms are modelled in bent [position at elbows, cupped right hand and clasped left had. Legs also shapely with defined knees and tiny anklws. Four-strap boots with bows. Doll has glass sleep eyes, feathered brows, painted lashes, accented nostrils and eye corners. Mouth is closed with accent line between lips. Wig is original blonde mohair over plaster pate
PRICE: at auction, $1,300
COMMENTS: Exceptional and beautifully modelled and painted doll equal in quality to many larger Kestners. Plaster pates are often found on Kestner all-bisques.
MARKET TREND: Quality all-bisque antique dolls continue to trend upward in price, as collectors realize their fine detailing, and as the trend towards little dolls continue (collectors often run out of room for the big dolls after a period of collecting).
