DOLLS--WEEK OF DECEMBER 30, 1999

NEWS

NEW BARBIE® FORMULA
The formula for making the plastic for Barbies is changing due to environmental concerns!  Read all about it in "Barbie Finally To Go Natural By Ditching Oil-Based Plastic; Mattel Responds to Environmental, Health Concerns" in the SF Gate News.  The article does not address whether or not the change in the formula will affect the "feel" of the Barbie plastic.

HAPPY NEW CENTURY!
In only 9  hours, our community members in New Zealand will be celebrating the new century and the year 2000!  Don't miss my look back, in Dolls Of The 20th Century.

GOOD, OLD-FASHIONED PLAY NECESSARY FOR CHILDHOOD
Just when you were totally sick from hearing about Amazing Ally, Talking Jesse, the electronic Barbie Cash Register and other "hot" toys that blink, buzz, and go bump in the night, here is a report from experts touting the importance of "good old-fashioned doll, dollhouse, make believe" and other old-fashioned play.  So, for the mental health of your children and grandchildren, better find them the Raggedy Ann in the closet!

YEAR 2000 BARBIES ON HSN
Look for the programs, or visit the web site at http://www.hsn.com  Please note though, that HSN has been presenting the Fabulous 40s Barbie and the Victorian Barbie with Cedric Bear as "exclusively available from HSN for the first few months of 2000"  This is misleading--the Fabulous 40s Barbie has been seen at some Targets already, and I know some dealers who have received the Victorian Barbie.  The Golden Allure HSN special has been selling for only $24 this week.
