DOLLS THIS WEEK-- NOVEMBER 23, 1999
NEWS
SOTHEBYS.AMAZON.COM IS LIVE
As I announced last week, Sothebys.Amazon.com
has gone live! Definitely more antique, and more high quality dolls than eBay
generally has, or the regular Amazon.com auctions. But, since most of the dolls I
looked at have reserves (and some even have bids
starting at several thousand dollars) I am not sure what the point of
the whole site is. I can just as easily go shopping at an antique doll shop. I
would give you a direct URL to the dolls part of the site, but the URL was two pages
long (another big fault, IMHO) so you will have to go to www.sothebys.amazon.com and browse the
categories to find the dolls pages. Stop by and see what you think, and share your views
in the Dolls Forum. Another fault--it
is not always clear who is selling the item. A plus: estimates of final
prices are provided.

FAO SCHWARTZ SITE REDESIGN
The venerable toy seller is going to be unveiling a major site
redesign this holiday season. This is a l site with a wonderful selection of
collectible dolls (although the prices aren't always the best) For more on the site
update, see Excite News.
TARGET ANNOUNCES THEIR TOP 10 HOLIDAY
TOYS
Get a jump on all the other moms in your neighborhood; Target
has announced what they think the hot toy items will be for gift-giving this year.
Two dolls made the list--"Amazing Ally" (this doll appears on many store
"hot toy" lists; can you say overstocked? The doll seems gimmicky to
me) and Barbie with baby Krissy (I believe this is hot; my 4 year old really wants
it for Christmas). Visit
Excite News for the full list. I've seen a clip of the movie with a large BUNCH of
Barbie®s in a toy store scene Toy Story 2, set for release next week. If my memory
serves me correctly, Mattel had refused to license Barbie® for use in Toy Story 2 (and,
hence Bo Peep was the only doll that had a major role). More on this in next week's Dolls
This Week!

Two new contests this week from Designer Doll Magazine--make over your
fashion dolls to enter either the Rock Star or the Charice Makeover contests. And,
