If you have a vintage Barbie, she may have the dreaded "green ear," a condition caused by the original metal earrings being left in the doll's ears for too long. Here's one way to cure it.
Difficulty Level: Medium Time Required: 1-6 months
Here's How:
- Obtain a product called Remove-Zit from Twin Pines of Maine
- Apply a coating of Remove-Zit to a clean ears with a wood stick. The product will harden to an opaque color in a day or so.
- Do NOT get product on any painted areas or hair, as the product can remove paint and discolor hair.
- When the product hardens, remove it and apply again.
- Continue to remove and reapply until the stain is gone. This can take a considerable amount of time; don't expect results overnight.
- For deep stains, you may need to remove the doll's head and apply the product on the inside of the ears AND the outside, If you do this, do not put the head in an enclosed area such as a Tupperware container, since you may remove paint from the dolls face.
- When the green ear is gone, clean the doll thoroughly.
- Do not re-insert the earrings back in the ears!
- There are other products that can remove green ear such as Tarn-X; I have had the best success with this one.
- Never treat green ear with two different products, since a chemical reaction can occur which will turn the ears brown
- Do NOT use the product on mod era dolls, such as TNT Barbies
or Caseys, since the product removes the skin dye and leaves a white spot.
