NORTH WOODS FATHER CHRISTMAS 1999

submitted, designed, and made by Ruth Nichols, Fairbanks, Alaska

sculptor.jpg (48715 bytes)The four foot tall Father Christmas has a floor length white polar fleece coat lined in burgundy.  The natural beaver fur trims the outer hood, hem and sleeve cuffs.  The wreath circling his head has berries, fruit and pine cones.  His beard and hair is a natural kid mohair.  Head and hands are hand sculpted in polymer clay.  The body is constructed from various materials allowing the body to have a natural like appearance.  The boots are made from a natural white fur trimmed in beaver fur.  The gift sack he carries has hand sculpted toys including a court jester, top, sail boat, ice skates, lolly pop, coo-coo type clock & train engine.  He also carries a lamp with hand sculpted candle inside, teddy bear, French style brass horn and a sack of apples. The four foot tall pine (style) tree has been loaded with over 21 birds.  The sculpted pipe he smokes is also made from a polymer clay to look like ivory.  It has a Santa face on the front of the pipe.  The Northern Woods Father Christmas 1999 is a one of a kind art figure.  There have been no molds or patterns used to create him or any of the accessories in this original piece.  So your assurance of him being the only one of it's kind from the artist is guaranteed.  He is signed and dated by the artist on the back neck of the Father Christmas head. "Picture quality can not compare to the North Woods Father Christmas in person"

I have been making Father Christmas' for over 11 years and still find it wonderful to do.  I have recently been accepted as artist member from the Professional Doll Makers Art Guild.  The only thing keeping me from becoming a Master Artist member is showing my work at the NY Toy Fair.  I have sold my work to many stores in Ohio (my home state) and Pennsylvania.  When the recession hit Ohio I decided to move to Alaska.  I figured if I was going to be a real starving artist I could just as easily do it in Alaska.  Little did I know that Alaska is where many artists live and work.  I soon discovered that I found my true home!
