PEDDLER DOLL
submitted by Pat Duncan, Baton Rouge, LA pduncan@premier.net
I have wanted a peddler doll since I first saw a photograph of one
in an article on dolls in the December 1964 issue of Reader's Digest. However, I did not
see one in person until the 1980s. An artist at a craft show had made some dolls
(including a peddler) out of bread dough. Because I feared the medium would not last, I
did not purchase the peddler but never forgot her. My dream finally came true last year in
the UFDC National Convention sales room when I found Emma. She is a one-of-a-kind artist
doll whose face, hands and legs are made of wood. She won the Best of Artist Dolls rosette
in the competition at my doll club's February 1999 show, and I display it proudly with
her.
