THE FROG PRINCESS

submitted, designed, and made by Beth Karpas  karpas@mindspring.com

Galfrog.jpg (22254 bytes)I've been making huggable dolls for 20 years, selling them professionally for two.  As a former children's librarian, my inspiration for the dolls comes largely from folk and fairy tales from around the globe.  This doll, the frog princess, is based upon the russian fairy tale of the same name.  Contrary to most fairy tales, in the frog princess the princess is a very strong character.  She is married to the czar's son while she is still a frog, and they remain man and frog for nearly a year before together they change her back into a beautiful, intelligent, princess.  The pattern is of my own design, a variation on the traditional topsy-turvy dolls which have been around for at least 150 years.  You simply lift the princess' full skirt to reveal the plump frog.  You can see more dolls, puppets and patterns on my web site, www.doll.pair.com.  All are of my own design and   are completely huggable.
