home_chicklet1(1).gif (311 bytes)ONLINE PAPER DOLLS AUCTION: Theriaults.com will be offering a paper dolls auction a their Ten2Go auction starting April 26th, for one week.

home_chicklet1(1).gif (311 bytes)HASBRO HAS $25 MILLION LOSS FOR THE QUARTER:  Blame Pokemon--or, rather, blame children who are no longer enamored of Pokemon.  Hasbro Inc., the nation's No. 2 toy maker, reported a greater-than-expected first-quarter loss Monday as the company was hurt by declining revenues for its Pokemon and Furby products and the sale of its interactive division.  Hasbro lost $25 million, or 15 cents per share, in the three months ended April 1, compared to a profit of $15.1 million, or 8 cents per share, in the same quarter last year.  Most of the loss (and difference compared to last year's profit) can be attributed to the waning interest of children in the Pokemon trading card game and licensed product.  However, Hasbro has some new licensed properties on the way--last year Hasbro agreed to make toys for new Disney movies.  So, this year, Hasbro will be making Jurassic Park toys, and toys from the highly anticipated Monsters, Inc. film.  PLUS....lots of Harry Potter toys and the Harry Potter trading card game.

home_chicklet1(1).gif (311 bytes)MATTEL SEES LOSSES, TOO...:  Mattel, the world's largest toy company, said that its losses for the quarter doubled from a year ago but that its financial restructuring plan was well under way.  The company reported a loss of $12.1m, or 3 cents a share, compared with last year's loss of $6.2m, or one cent a share. The results beat analysts' expectations of losses between 2 cents and 5 cents a share. Barbie sales were flat in the first quarter, but sales of toys in the boys division, especially Hot Wheels, grew.

home_chicklet1(1).gif (311 bytes)SILLY PUTTY JOINS HALL OF FAME:  Barbie's a member, and so is her sometimes unofficial beau GI Joe....and now Silly Putty joins the National Toy Hall of Fame in Salem, Oregon.   Silly Putty was 50 years old last year, and many girls have delighted in ruining a Barbie's hair by getting the stuff stuck in it.

home_chicklet1(1).gif (311 bytes)LIGHT-HEARTED HUMOR MAKES PUSSYCATS PURR:  Have you see "Josie and The Pussycats" yet?  The movie has been popular with the teenage crowd, and the dolls popular with younger girls.  Read a review in  Excite News, or find out all about the Josie and the Pussycat dolls in my article: Josie And The Pussycat Dolls- Near Purrfection.

home_chicklet1(1).gif (311 bytes)RUMOURS ON NEW BARBIES!:  The Doll Attic has reported that the next Lucy in the series will be Lucy at the Cabana, complete with colorful blouse, white tier ruffled skirt and fruit on her head.  The next reproduction Barbie doll could be a Blonde American Girl in Gold 'n Glamour - (now, THAT's a doll I would love to have!)   And... Bewitched may be the next character series doll!   Also rumoured is a brunette Grand Entrance in a pink gown.
