"ARTIST" FOLDS, SPINDLES AND MUTILATES BARBIES: Are
you getting sick of these artists? I certainly am. Someone needs to
tell them that this is NOT an unusual idea any more. This one
actually holds classes in the "art" of doing strange things with
Barbie. Well, I guess this type of "artist" has figured
out that this is a great way to get media attention--I mean, who is going
to give you national media attention if you do this to any OTHER doll?

TOYS WHY PAY RETAIL.COM IS GONE: It has been replaced by
something called "Toys TX40.com" at www.toystx40.com.
This company is owned by Toys International (the toy retailer) and does
not appear to be a close-out outlet as the other store was, although
peppered in the listings there are a few dolls at close-out
prices.

THE OVER-TECHING OF TOYS: "Over-teching" is a
term I've just coined to refer to the new phenomena of toy manufacturers
thinking that EVERY new doll and toy needs a tech bell or whistle.
Don't miss this great article on the phenomena: "What's
Wrong With Kick The Can: Toys have gone so high-tech theres no room for
creativity." This is an exceptional article, providing
coverage of Toy Fair. The author notes: "It was hard not
to have a wistful feeling about the good old days of austerity and rag
dolls as we walked through the halls of the Toy Fair. Even as people who
have a keen appreciation and interest in the beneficial effects of
technology, its hard not to wonder whether all these whiz-bang toys are
a substitute for that most wonderful of toys, the imagination.." and
I couldn't agree with him more.
CALLING ALL DOLL CLUBS: I want to put a special page of
doll club links on my site, organized by region. SO, if you DO have
a web site for your doll club, PLEASE send it to me at collectdolls.guide@about.com
Please put DOLL CLUB LINK in the subject line, so I can expedite the
linking. For a great example of a doll club site, check out this

CASSIE BY SUSAN WAKEEN MAY BE DELAYED: A
source has told me that Susan Wakeen is still working with perfecting
Cassie's mold. Cassie will be smaller than Eve, and so the body mold
is different. Cassie will most likely debut in 2002.
