HAPPY THANKSGIVING!: Happy Thanksgiving to you and
yours! May you have many blessings and much to be thankful for in your doll
collecting life, and your "real life" as well!! Here's a short news
update--it may be the start of the holidays, but that is a BUSY time in the world of
dolls! BIG DAY AFTER THANKSGIVING DAY SALES!
HERE ARE SOME OF THE BIG DOLL SALES FOR FRIDAY,
NOVEMBER 23:
- KB EARLY BIRD SALE: This is the BIG one--CELEBRATION
BARBIE $19.99!! Limit 2 per person from 5am to 12 noon ONLY! Regular price
is $39.99 or more.
- KB EARLY BIRD SALE: GENERATION GIRL
BARBIES only $9.99 each! This is 50% off!! Again, from 5am to 12 noon ONLY!
- KB EARLY BIRD SALE: TALKING POWERPUFF
GIRLS: 9.99 each; regular 21.99 Again, this is an early bird sale;
5am to noon ONLY!
- TOYS ARE US: GENERATION
GIRLS buy one get one free (18.99 each)!. Friday AND Saturday!
- TOYS ARE US: JEWEL GIRL BARBIE
AND FRIENDS $10 each; regular 13.99 each.
- TARGET: JEWEL GIRL BARBIE
AND FRIENDS: $9.98. Friday and Saturday
- TARGET: BARBIE VOLKSWAGEN
BEETLE: $19.97. Friday and Saturday.
There are LOTS of other sales, but these were some of the
bigger discounts on some of the more popular dolls. Watch out for false
"sales" though--some major chains are advertising certain prices as sale prices
which are NOT much different from what the prices have been all along. Some other GREAT
non-dolls sales are out there, including an early bird sale at TRU which is a Furby for
only $5 with ANY purchase! Happy Shopping!
CHECK YOUR
THURSDAY NEWSPAPER SUPPLEMENTS! Because Friday is THE big sales day to kick off
the official holiday shopping season. Many big toy retailers and "big box"
retailers run BIG specials on dolls and toys--some require getting up at the crack of
dawn, others require a coupon, and others just require that you get to the store on Friday
before they sell out!!
CAROLE AND BARRY
KAYE MINIATURES MUSEUM TO CLOSE: The Los Angeles Time reported yesterday that
the Carole and Barry Kaye Miniatures Museum
in Los Angeles will close at the end of this year. This is a sad loss for the doll and
miniatures community, as the museum has one of the most spectacular displays of dolls and
miniatures in the world. If you are in Los Angeles, don't miss the closing sale,
which is on right--50% off anything in the gift shop (which carries an amazing line of
dolls and miniatures). The web site says that the museum will have a "new
location" to be announced soon--it is possible that that location will be in Florida,
where the museum principals are moving.
NEW BARBIE
BOOKS!: Two great titles have been released--the "Fashion Doll Price
Guide, which is an expanded edition of the old Miller's Price Guide, and "Barbie:
A Visual Guide to the Ultimate Fashion Doll." The Fashion Doll Price
Guide is very comprehensive and a MUST for vintage Barbie collectors (though it covers
much more) and its available from www.dollattic.com
OR Portfolio Press at 1-877-737-1200. The Visual Guide has wonderful photographs and
covers Barbie from 1959 to now, and is available from most bookstores and major online
booksellers.
TOYS AREN'T JUST
FOR KIDS ANYMORE: Check out this great editorial in the Calgary Herald--the toy
and doll industry is now a $30 billion a year industry. But....are all these toys
for KIDS? (well...here at Doll Collecting at About, we sure don't think so!!) It's OK To
Give Toys To Adults
VISIT THE CHAT ROOM!: Its open 24
hours a day, and its free! Just invite your friends in any time, or stop by to see
who's there! http://collectdolls.about.com/mpchat.htm.
