Americana 2000 Project: All we here these days about schools is bad news--well don't miss this wonderful polymer clay/history sculpture project by the students at Overlook Middle School, part of the Ashburnham-Westminster Regional School District. The students sculpted heads significant American icons from 1943-2000, under the leadership of several teachers, including doll sculptor and About.com community member William LaRose. Some of these sculpted heads are fantastic! Don't miss seeing them (are these the future dollmakers of America?) and reading the entire article at: http://www.awrsd.org/oms/americana_2000_project.htm
Jill Nemirow-Nelson Resigns as Dollmaking Magazine Columnist:
The many fans of "DollMaking Magazine's "Small Talk" column will be sad to learn that writer and dollmaker Jill Nemirow-Nelson's last contribution to the publication will be in the May/June 2000 issue. "After a run of 6 years," Nelson stated, "It was time for me to pull up stakes and move on. The magazine, itself, has changed greatly over the years I helped to build it, but, unfortunately, some of those changes weren't the kind I wanted associated with my name and my work." Fans of Jill's work can still visit her website, Jill Nemirow-Nelson's MicroCosmos Dolls and she encourages those on the web to write if they need any doll-making assistance. "I want my fans to know that I'm still here and will continue, not only to answer their questions by e-mail," she said, "But I will also be writing features for other doll magazines in the very near future!" Jill Nemirow-Nelson can be reached at MicroJill@aol.com
