Guide Review - Book Review: The History and Art of Googlies by Anita Ladensack
First of all, I think I need to admit that I don't collect Googlies--they just don't appeal to me! Also, I was a bit confused by some of the dolls in the book, since I didn't think that all side-glancing eyed dolls were considered Googlies. In spite of this, I enjoyed this book greatly. It was educational to have so many Googlies from different manufacturers in one place. And, as a dollmaker, seeing all of the costume possibilities for Googlies is fantastic. This book is a definite must for antique doll collectors, especially collectors of German dolls since most (but not all) of the antique Googlies were made in Germany. The great variety of Googlies made is truly eye-opening.
