Thought this was interesting, but can't figure out what steel workers
are doing in a doll factory. Anyone have any idea/knowledge?

CINCINNATI, PR Newswire; 02/17/99

STEELWORKERS UNION WINS BARGAINING RIGHTS FOR WORKERS
AT LEE MIDDLETON ORIGINAL DOLLS, INC.

Labor Board Upholds Election

-- The United Steelworkers of America (USWA) has been notified by the
National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) that the union's successful 1998
representation election at Lee Middleton Original Dolls, Inc. in Belpre, Ohio,
has been upheld, and the USWA certified as the bargaining agent for more
than 100 workers at the doll plant. When a majority of workers at Lee
Middleton Original Dolls voted for Steelworkers representation in a secret
ballot election conducted by the NLRB on July 24, 1998, management
filed objections to the election based on what the Steelworkers consider
frivolous charges to delay certification of the union.

The NLRB's Region 8 director in Cleveland had previously dismissed the
complaints, and the company appealed that decision to the full NLRB
board in Washington, D.C. The board upheld the regional director's
decision throwing out the complaints, and certified the Steelworkers
as the bargaining agent for workers at Lee Middleton Original Dolls.

The USWA's Ohio organizing coordinator Jim Newport said, "The
Steelworkers hope this decision by the NLRB will convince management
at Lee Middleton Original Dolls to end the delays and appeals, and get
down to negotiating with its workers for a fair first contract. The money
the company is paying its lawyers to fight the union would be better
spent improving the workers' wages, benefits and conditions of
employment."

The United Steelworkers of America has 750,000 members in North
America, with more than 80,000 in the State of Ohio. The Steelworkers
are actively assisting workers in a variety of industries and occupations
to organize for self- improvement.
