I can’t help it—when I see a big commotion at a doll show, I simply have to investigate what’s causing the excitement. Today, there was a big clump of collectors surrounding one particular booth. Gently elbowing my way to the front, I found Kathy and Janet Lennon (of the Lennon Sisters) signing their new dolls! I’ve long known that Kathy and Janet collect dolls, but I didn’t know that they were going to come out with their own doll line until today.
The dolls that they were introducing to collectors at IDEX are the Best Pal dolls. Best Pals are traditional rag dolls which are exact replicas of the original rag dolls that were hand sewn for Kathy and Janet by their maternal grandmother Nana and mother Sis Lennon. I found the dolls charming, and very evocative of simpler times. They will appeal to children wanting a soft, comforting doll to cuddle at bedtime, as well as to adult cloth doll collectors thanks to their vintage look and feel. Suggested retail for the dolls is $19.99 each. The dolls are being produced by KatJan, Inc. and they will be in stores within the next few weeks.
