Barbie Collectibles Debuts Strong Group of New Dolls at Toy Fair
Barbie Collectibles showed off some brand new additions to their Pink, Silver and Gold Label lines of collectible Barbie dolls at Toy Fair today. Unlike recent years in which nearly no new collectible product debuted at Toy Fair, this Toy Fair showed off some beautifully displayed just announced new 2006 releases.
One of the biggest surprises was a relatively large offering of new reproduction vintage Barbie dolls. These reproductions are very well done, with fabrics and facial painting that strongly recall the original 1960s and early 1970s Barbies.
New repoductions included a very nicely done #1 Ken with flocked brunette hair, two mod Twist and Turn reproductions incuding "Made For Each Other" which has a new type of vinyl that more closely mimicks the vinyl of the late 1960s and early 1970s dolls, and the first ever Barbie and Ken reproduction gift set, "Friday Night Dream Date." My only caveat is that some of the dolls at the Fair were prototypes and not the final version, and sometimes final versions can have variations in fabrics and facial painting.
Barbie also rediscovers her fashion roots in 2006 with the new Just Models gift sets (doll, two outfits and accessories) in the Pink Label line and with several fashion themed dolls including a new Bagdley Mischka and even a new Bob Mackie designed holiday doll (in a lovely gold-rimmed display box)
The new Silkstone line for 2006 is a big improvement over the overly made up Silkstone Barbies from 2005. This year, the theme centers around London, England. I'll have much more on the new 2006 Barbies later this week including much more on the pink label line, so be sure to check back each day of Toy Fair.
