FAO Schwarz Reopens to Crowds and Acclaim

Wednesday December 1, 2004
FAO Schwarz, the venerable, 150 year old retailer, has re-opened its flagship New York store to crowds and acclaim. The store went into bankruptcy (for the second time) early this year but is now under new ownership. The new owners have decided to bring FAO back to its roots as an upscale toy retailer, and they are trying to bring back the magic of toys to its stores (the second store is in Las Vegas).

Collectible dolls will play a big part in this--the store will showcase only high-end collectible Barbies (and not play Barbies which can be found in every Wal-Mart) as well as exclusive dolls from companies such as Robert Tonner. Read about FAO's Emergence From Bankruptcy, as well as my earlier article on The Demise of a Legend (which has now been resurrected!).
