Man Arrested in Huge eBay Fraud

Thursday June 12, 2003
I know many of you buy and sell dolls on eBay, so you'll be interested in today's story at MSNBC: Man Arrested In Huge eBay Fraud. In this fraud, a man sold $1,000 lap top computers to $1,000 people, and never delivered the computers.

What I found particularly interesting for doll collectors in this article is information on how Square Trade, the eBay seller verification actually works. Many of us rely on the Square Trade $1,000 fraud protection for the purchase of an expensive antique doll on eBay. BUT...did you know that the "$1,000 protection" that Square Trade offers for fraud is $1,000 per SELLER and not BUYER? I didn't! So, let's see, that's exactly $1 of re-imbursement for each eBay buyer that this guy defrauded!

Since Square Trade doesn't actually protect you very much on eBay, you'll need other strategies, such as those in Buying and Selling Dolls Online--How To Protect Yourself.
